The Public Benefit Foundation “Agia Sofia” was built in the late 1970s by former Metropolitan Bishop of Kissamos and Selino, Ireneos Galanakis. Located at 25th km of the Chania – Rethymno national road, it consists of a two storey building with a total area of 785 m2 per floor.

As of April 2007, together with the Foundation, the Regional Press Institute has also been established there, and, at its own expense, has carried out the full renovation of the interior and exterior of the building.
